Sarah Enright, RYT
one curious yogi

I want to help you discover the healthiest, happiest version of you.

Since I received my teaching certificate from Prana Yoga College in August 2009, I

've been arranging classes in various spaces. From the Edelman Vancouver office, where I worked, to St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church to The Beaumont Studios, we've now settled at Three Jewels at 9 East Broadway, near Main Street.

Thanks to the flexible minds and support of this core group of eight yogis Liz, Charlie, Barry, Wendy, Brian, Doug, Chris, Michelle and Shannon I have had the opportunity to learn about teaching. Their support, struggle and encouragement has inspired me to continue to be the best teacher I can be.

Thanks also to my teacher friends who asked me to fill in for their regular classes at Fitness 2000 in Burnaby and Genesis Athletic Club in North Vancouver. These experiences gave me the opportunity to teach larger classes.

More about me

I live with my dog and companion, Bubba. He's a beautiful, schizophrenic, Gemini, white Lab/Husky cross.

No one's ever seen me hugging a tree but they may have seen me dumping my compost in the bin or looking after the Green Streets garden on my street.

I don't own a car but I do "own" a very small condo. I intentionally moved to a central neighbourhood so I could walk, ride my bike or take transit wherever I need to go. If I want to go farther I get a ride or reserve a Co-op car. I've been a member of the Co-operative Auto Network since 2007.

I am an active member of YogaBC, the professional association for yoga in British Columbia responsible for furthering the yoga profession and ensuring our safety through representation and education.

I lead a double-life, I'm also a graphic arts production professional. I've been working in the print/advertising/PR business for over 20 years.

The deadlines turned me into a very angry, anxious person (just ask anyone who knows me) but the year I rediscovered yoga was the year that all started to change. Now I'm peace personified (ummmm, slight exaggeration). The deadlines are still there but they don't cause ultimate panic anymore.

Why do I continue to teach yoga?

  • I'm learning so much about people and how they relate to their bodies, their minds, situations and the people around them.
  • I get to talk about the miracle that is the human body and the amazing power we all have to heal ourselves.
  • It's opening up a creative channel in me I forgot existed.
  • I get to meet so many great people.
  • It inspires me to go deeper with my own yoga practice.
  • It gives me the freedom to live and make a living anywhere, anytime. No restrictions.

Why is yoga so important to me?

  • It cured my Crohn's disease. It's been in remission for over seven years.
  • No more sinusitis. My nasal passages are clear.
  • It cured my Plantar Fasciitis. Painful feet made me a very grumpy person.
  • It simply makes me happy.
Why did I decide to teach yoga?
  • A very good friend talked me into taking the teacher training.
  • Prana Yoga College had an offer I couldn't refuse. The 200-hour course was almost half price. How could I ignore that?
  • My employer gave me a month off so I could take the course.
  • In high school I thought about becoming a physiotherapist but I wasn't interested in four more years of school.

Yoga brings me back to my childhood in Dundas, Ontario. I think of climbing the huge oak tree in the big field behind our house.

I remember the first few times I tried. I was super clumsy, and afraid I was going to fall and crack my head open.

But after I practiced a few times I started to get the hang of it. I felt confident and strong, the tree and I seemed to work together.

OK, maybe I'm going out on a limb here (groan), but have you ever climbed a tree and felt like that tree was  going to reach out and save you if you fell, just like in The Two Towers?

Nevermind.
